Opportunities to learn more about Healthy Relationships!

The WAVE Foundation’s Sharon Anderson, Peter Verbrugge and Elizabeth Salvo had the opportunity to meet last week with Ilene Stohl from the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WSCADV). We were excited to learn about education and awareness programs currently being implemented at the state level. Ilene sent us away with our minds buzzing with ideas and our arms loaded with t-shirts, postcards and adorable informational stickers. Check out WSCADV’s healthy relationship blog at http://canyourelate.org/category/love-like-this/. You will see some cool cats in action! Literally!

The WAVE Foundation is very excited to offer it’s very first international bike tour to the bicycle-friendly country of Vietnam.  This tour is produced by the internationally renowned tour company, Pedaltours NZ, and marketed by TWF.  This coed tour will include a visit with a local NGO, CSAGA, who support over 20 different domestic violence groups across the country.  It’s open to all riders so bring those husbands, siblings, kids and partners along.  It’s going to be an amazing experience!
Sharon 092015This company ran a decade of over a dozen succesful tours via Cascade Bicycle Club’s International tours program.  For this new TWF Vietnam tour we offer terrific group pricing discounts (up to 22% off their regular price) plus TWF Board President Sharon Anderson will be participating.  And the best part is that a portion of rider fees go back to TWF.  Pedaltours also employs a fantastic local tour outfit to help run this on the ground.  You’ll be amazed at their high level of customer service and professionalism.
Vietnam is a fabulous cultural experience and absolutely ideal for exploring by bike. It has a wide range of scenery, from the lowlands of the Mekong Delta, to the mountainous Far North. The country is a little larger than New Mexico and has a long coastline, being about 1,000 miles from North to South. The children that seem to serenade you all along this route will leave you with a big smile that’s hard to shake, even when you board the plane to return home! We bike on the minor roads and mix with the locals, whether heavily laden work bikes, bullock carts or playful children.
We stay at very wonderful comfortable lodges and resorts; and our tour takes in many of the most important and must-see cities in the country – the imperial city of Hue, historic Hoi An, the beach resort of Nha Trang, Dalat, once a French spa mountain resort, and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
Vietnam-Many kids on bikeThis tour offers a winning combination of cycling, sightseeing and exploring. The Vietnamese culinary delights on offer will also astound you – some of the best food in the world awaits. Cycling distances are also entirely optional, as multiple support vehicles will be available at any time. Pedaltours NZ guarantees that you can ride as much (or as little) as you want on this tour. The tour is also packed with fun and interesting cultural experiences, and offers several 2-day overnight stays at amazing cities – you will have plenty of time to enjoy the trip, on and off the bike!

It’s a Family Affair

You have probably heard about Cycling Attorney John Duggan, as he supports many cycling events, teams and non-profit organizations throughout the Puget Sound region.  While John is a champion for local cyclists, did you know that his wife Julie has been a key member of the Wave Event Team since its inception?  If you ever ordered a WAVE jersey or arm warmer, then it’s Julie who takes care of the process.

“I absolutely love meeting the riders of Cycle the WAVE.  Our ‘jersey booth’
is always busy on ride day with wonderful women of all ages and fitness levels!  It warms my heart when I see Cycle the WAVE jerseys from all the years in many of the Seattle area organized rides throughout the cycling season.  Our jerseys and arm warmers always get compliments and help us to bring attention to our cause.  I love my ‘job’!”  Julie Duggan

Although they support numerous cyclists, teams and events, working together to support Cycle the WAVE has always been a top priority for the Duggan family.

“It’s one of our favorite events on the cycling calendar, not only providing riders of all levels  a fabulous and safe riding experience, but also giving back much needed funds to local Domestic Violence causes… It’s a total win-win for everyone and we have so much fun working together on the event”.  John Duggan

Seattle MINI ‘Motor On!” to the start line…

“We like grass roots events where our contribution has a big impact” said Seattle MINI Manager Richard Stone.  “This event has it all!” Seattle MINI looks for ways to help the community throughout the year and this is one event we are very proud to be a part off.

“You’ll see us out on the course again this year as we support the Seattle MINI Motor On! Team.  Yes, we are the guys handing out Ice Creams along the way.  Be sure to stop by our Event Tent on the day and collect some goodies and high fives”.

P.S. As a way to say thanks to you the riders, Seattle MINI can offer $500.00 off M.S.R.P. on any New MINI, with the presentation of your event bib SeattleMINIlogonumber for the remainder of 2015.
